Children experience listening to and having opportunities to speak different languages from the Early Years at St John's. They continue to build upon this informal introduction to other languages throughout KS1 until KS2 when they enjoy weekly German lessons. Not only are the children enthusiastic in learning the skills to communicate in another language, but they are also deepening their understanding of the wider world and gaining acceptance of other cultures.

Through learning another language, children begin to appreciate and enjoy different sound systems and grow more alert to different grammar rules in comparison to English. This awareness not only makes them more astute in their own language, but will also support them in their chosen MFL learning when they go to secondary school, whether it be a continuation of German, Spanish or French.
