PSHE/Citizenship
Our PSHE curriculum is designed to promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils, preparing them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of life. We use resources from the PSHE programme called Jigsaw. Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. These core puzzle pieces are: Being Me in My World, Celebrating Differences, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships, and Changing Me, all with E-Safety linked throughout.
At St John’s the children and their mental wellbeing are prioritised. PSHE isn’t just a part of our teaching curriculum but is also a part of our everyday life at school such as our values, our behaviour approach, our various provisions, Zones of Regulation, and the environment we promote.
Our school values encourage our children to be curious, creative, and confident in school, their community, and the wider world. We give children a voice and an active role in problem solving through the school’s restorative behaviour approach. Each day, we use our Zones of Regulation to identify our feelings and give our children the strategies to understand and regulate their emotions. Our children and staff value this time to talk to one another and learn how to interact positively and effectively.
