Robin - Reception

Hi, I'm Miss Albani and I teach in Robin Class.

I love teaching in the Early Years Foundation Stage and supporting children throughout their first year in education.

My favourite subject is definitely Maths and I absolutely love taking all types of learning outdoors.

I am also an avid reader. I do value greatly our story times in class and I like supporting children in immersing themselves into a new book. I enjoy some role play, making props, or simply creating a cosy and inviting reading nook where children can enjoy listening to a story.

Additional adults working in Robins class: Mr Graves and Miss Stiles

Term four

Our learning this term:

Our topic this term is ‘Tell me a story’ where we will be learning about classic fairytales, such as The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man and others.

We will also be learning about how to stay healthy by making healthier day-to-day choices.

Literacy

Linking to our 'Tell me a story' topic, our focus books this term are: The Gingerbread Man, The Three Little Pigs, Mr Wolf's Pancakes, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Easter Story.

In Literacy, we will be:

  • Writing short phrases with words using known letter-sound correspondences

  • Forming many lower-case letters correctly

  • Learning how many words there are in the sentence we say, and that words need a space between them when we are writing

  • Using non-fiction books or technology to find out information in our play

  • Creating stories that we have heard or read, including key details and sequencing

  • Using everyday literacy items in our play, e.g. envelopes, signs, instructions, lists, labels

  • Reading short phrases using CVC words with taught sounds, and some ‘red words’

  • Able to answer simple questions about a book that we are reading (matched to our phonic ability)

Phonics

We are learning to read and write sounds in this order:

We will learn to:

  • Show fast recognition of up to 10 objects without having to count them (subitising)

Learning at home for Robin Class:

Reading

We will be sending home three reading items for you to look at with your child:

1. Storybooks from our library that you can enjoy reading together with your child

2. Ditty sheets OR a Read Write Inc book for your child to practise reading sounds they are familiar with, simple words/ phrases and 'red words'

3. A pink-banded book to practice reading new words and other reading skills (e.g. comprehension, prosody, fluency, etc)

Please try to spend some time each day listening to your child read as it really does have a positive impact on their progress.  Remember to sign your child’s reading record when they have read to you.

Be ready for learning! In Robin Class your child will need to have these items in school:

Everything you send to school MUST be labelled clearly with your child’s name. Lost property will be available for parents to access daily on the school premises should anything go missing.

  • Book bag (provided by school)

  • Water bottle (no squash or juice)

  • Lunch box (if not having a school meal)

  • Wellington boots (to leave in school)

  • Coat (weather appropriate)

  • Bag of spare clothes to leave on your child's peg

  • PE Kit (to be worn all day on a PE day - Tuesday)

Please don’t bring other items or toys into school, as we do not have space to store these, and it can cause upset if things are lost or damaged.

Outdoor learning:

Outdoor learning plays a pivotal part in our children's development. Therefore, much of our learning in EYFS, takes place outside, and we aim to enjoy our outdoor learning area in any weather! So please, provide a pair of wellington boots which you are happy to leave in school for outdoor play.
